About us.

Paralympics Australia helps Australians with an impairment participate in sport and compete at the Paralympic Games.

At the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, the Australian Paralympic Team placed fifth on the medal tally with 22 gold, 30 silver and 29 bronze medals, and in 2018, we achieved our best result at a Paralympic Winter Games since 2002.

The Australian Paralympic Team has a proud history of success. We have finished in the top five at every summer Paralympic Games since 1992.

Paralympics Australia plays a lead role in promoting Paralympic sport, supporting Australian Paralympians to Games success and fostering pathways for emerging Para-athletes.

But we also play a broader role in promoting the value of diversity and inclusion in sport by informing and inspiring all Australians with an impairment to get involved.

Recognising the benefits of participation, we want all Australians with an impairment to be given the access and support to compete at the level their skill and desire can take them – whether that is in a competition at the local community hall or representing their nation in a packed stadium overseas with millions of Australians watching from home.
